ACL donates netball kit to Mangochi Police Queens

Mangochi-based young businessperson Bilal Mussa, the owner of Amaanat Contractors Limited, generously donated a set of netball jerseys to the Mangochi Police Netball Team on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

The donation came after a request made by the Police Station’s Resource Mobilization team last week, seeking a new netball kit.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the Station’s premises, Mussa, who also runs a charity organization, stated that he decided to donate the netball equipment as an initiative to help keep the female officers fit and also as a token of appreciation for the presence of female cops in the area.

“I was delighted to be approached for support. It is a clear indication of the excellent working relationship that exists between us,” Mussa remarked.

He further acknowledged that Mangochi Police Queens are renowned for their activity, which has contributed to the fitness of the officers, thereby helping to deter criminal activities in the area and serve as role models to the young girls in different communities.

Mr. Timothy Phiri, the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police and Officer In-Charge of Mangochi Police Station, expressed his gratitude to ACL’s Chief Executive Officer for the timely donation.

“The donation couldn’t have come at a better time, as Mangochi Police Queens are currently in the first position in the ongoing Eastern Region Commissioner’s Trophy,” Phiri stated proudly.

He added, “I’m very proud of my female officers; they don’t disappoint me when it comes to sporting activities, which help them deliver good policing services to the citizens. This uniform will undoubtedly boost their morale.”

Phiri also commended Mussa for his consistent support whenever approached. Mussa is the same person who donated the Masuku roadblock to the station.

The handover ceremony was attended by Mangochi Police Operations Officer, Superintendent Billy Chibwe, Station’s Community Policing Coordinator Inspector James Kumbikano, Team’s Captain Sergeant Lucy Wadi, and a few players.
